Memorandum of Understanding between ENISA and EDPS

On 30 November 2022, the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) Wojciech Wiewiórowski and Juhan Lepassar, the Executive Director of ENISA, signed a Memorandum of Understanding which establishes a strategic framework for increased cooperation between ENISA and the EDPS.

Th Memorandum of Understanding has been agreed in recognition of the common interest of EDPS and ENISA to cooperate more in areas of mutual interest in accordance with and subject to their respective statutory tasks and
powers under Union law. Such mutual interest exists for instance in relation to cybersecurity aspects of personal data protection. EDPS and ENISA agreed to put forward a strategic plan on promoting awareness, capacity, cyber-hygiene and privacy and data protection stand of institutions, bodies, offices and agencies of the Union. The strategic plan will aim to promote a joint approach to cybersecurity aspects of data protection as well as to the adoption of privacy enhancing technologies, and strengthen the capacities and skills of the aforementioned institutions, bodies, offices and agencies of the Union. In order to inter alia review matters related to the strategic plan, identify further areas of cooperation and to exchange views cybersecurity and privacy challenges, EDPS and ENISA aim to meet regularly, at least once a year. The strategic cooperation will be facilitated by designation of a single point of contact at EDPS and ENISA respectively. The Memorandum entered into force on the day following its signature, i.e. 1 December 2022.
