The Proposal for a NIS 2.0 Directive has been adopted at first reading with 577 votes to 6, with 31 abstentions at the Parliament’s plenary session of 10 November 2022. Since political agreement had been reached in June 2022, work had continued at technical level to finalise the provisional agreement on the full legal text. After Parliament’s approval, the Council now has to formally adopt the law before it will be published in the Official Journal of the European Union. The new NIS 2.0 Directive will enter into force on the twentieth day following that of its publication in the Official Journal. Member States will then have to transpose the Directive into national law within 21 months.
In the same plenary session the Parliament adopted at first reading a Regulation on digital operational resilience for the financial sector (DORA).
